Can you use Body Shop products when pregnant?

If you have any concerns about using any The Body Shop product during pregnancy, we recommend consulting a medical professional. All of our products pass strict safety tests and meet the legal requirements wherever we sell them. If any safety advice applies to any of our products, we clearly state this on packaging.

How safe are Body Shop products?

We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and our safety record, so you can enjoy The Body Shop products with confidence.

All our products are manufactured with high quality ingredients and are assessed for safety and compliance according to strict international regulation. We keep track of new research and, if needed, adjust our formulas in response to new knowledge.

Are your products vegetarian?

Yes. All of our products are suitable for vegetarians!

How can I tell if a product has been discontinued?

If you are searching for a product and you can't find it on our website, it may have been discontinued. To double check, you can pop into your local store where they will be able to confirm for you. You can also contact our customer care team at customerservice@thebodyshop.ca

Do The Body Shop products have a shelf life?

All of our products have a shelf life of three years when unopened.  Once a product has been opened its shelf life will vary. On the packaging of each product, you will find a picture of a small pot with the lid slightly ajar and a number inside. This number refers to the number of months in which to use the product after it has been opened.

What does your delivery packaging look like?

We are always looking to improve our packaging to make sure that your products are delivered safely. Items are placed inside our 100% recyclable non-branded boxes and any glass products will be wrapped in recyclable bubblewrap.

Which of your products are vegan?

The Body Shop has become the first global beauty brand to achieve 100% vegan product formulations across all lines! All of our product formulations are certified by The Vegan Society.

Are all your products hypoallergenic?

Unfortunately there isn’t an internationally recognized definition of hypoallergenic, so we are unable to make any claims on this.

However, we use ingredients that are carefully selected for their high levels of purity and consumer safety. Our products are rigorously tested for safety and comply with strict international safety laws

Do you provide an allergy detection service?

Unfortunately we don't offer an allergy detection service. We do publish our ingredient lists on the product pages under Ingredients.

Ingredients

Do your products contain Methylisothiazolinone or Methylchloroisothiazolinone?

There has been a lot of media coverage in the Canada about the rise in allergies seen by dermatologists due to the use of some preservatives in cosmetic products.

We can confirm that the ingredients in question, Methylisothiazolinone and Methylchloroisothiazolinone, are not used by The Body Shop®.

What ingredients do you use?

In line with our Against Animal Testing Value, The Body Shop only sources ingredients in a completely humane way.

What is hemp?

The key ingredient in our Hemp range is hemp seed oil. It is rich in 'Essential Fatty Acids' (EFAs) providing extreme moisturization for even the driest skin. Our hemp is 100% ethically sourced.

Do The Body Shop products contain dimethicone?

We always use a blend of all materials that are of the highest quality and inspired by nature.

For example, our shower gels contain natural moisturising ingredients but also naturally derived foaming agents which give our unique sensorial feel which you see in all our products.

We use two forms of silicone called Dimethicone and Cyclomethicone in some of our products. Despite their safety record, there are other environmental concerns surrounding their usage and, as such, we are phasing them out through the introduction of new products which are silicone free.

Please note that we will continue to use Dimethicone where we can find no natural or naturally derived alternative that provides at least an equivalent performance and safety profile that Dimethicone offers.

How are the Edelweiss stem cells extracted?

Wild plants are protected, so stem cells are taken from a cultivated plant when it is full of energy and potency. These cells are propagated under optimum conditions to provide a sustainable supply.

Do your products contain polyethylene micro beads?

No, polyethylene micro beads are no longer used in any of our products. All of The Body Shop® Body Scrubs contain natural exfoliators.

In 2014 we made a commitment to replace these ingredients with a naturally-derived alternative during 2015, which we fulfilled. The materials that replace the polyethylene micro beads are either natural or naturally derived and biodegradable. This work has now been completed and since the end of 2015 all formulas are being made without the use of polyethylene microbeads.

Do your products contain phthalates?

None of our products contain any phthalates.  For more information on the ingredients for individual products, see the ingredients tab on the product page.

What is Edelwiess?

Edelweiss is a plant that has exceptional renewing properties. It has adapted and developed these properties to survive in harsh conditions at high altitude.

Stem cell technology makes it possible to retain the core properties of the wonder flower when in its prime. We source stem cells taken from an Edelwiess plant in a botanical garden (wild Edelweiss is protected).

A microscopic amount of precious plant tissue is carefully extracted and used to create a regenerative bio-active to aid skin renewal.

Stem cells are cultivated under perfect conditions to provide on-going sustainable supply without having to revisit the precious plant.

Do your products contain polyethylene micro beads?

No, polyethylene micro beads are no longer used in any of our products. All of The Body Shop® Body Scrubs contain natural exfoliators.

E Gift Cards

Does The Body Shop Canada accept gift cards that were purchased before 31st March 2024?

The Body Shop Canada does not accept Gift cards that were purchased before 31st March 2024.  This is due to the fact that The Body Shop Canada was in a CCAA between  no longer a redemption partner with One4All and Love2Shop and therefore we are unable to accept these cards as payment instore or online.

The Body Shop Canada changed ownership on the 16th December 2024 after a 9 months CCAA proceeding.  As a result of this all gift cards that were purchased before 31st March 2024 are non-redeemable.

Does The Body Shop Canada have gift cards?

The Body Shop Canada has introduced e-gift cards as of the 14th April 2025.  These are non-physical cards that can be purchased and redeemed through our website only.  

We are working to make them redeemable across all Body Shop Canada stores, however at the time of writing this is not the case.

What happens if I send the e-gift card to an incorrect email address?

If you have accidently sent the git card to the wrong email address you will need to reach out to customer service via the Contact us form or alternatively contact an agent through the live chat.  Please provide them with  the relevant details (Order number, name address etc) to verify your transaction.

The Body Shop Canada Customer service will edit the email address. Once updated, they will send the email to the correct address.

Does an e gift card purchase contribute towards the free shipping?

No.  a e-gift card is a virtual item and is delivered electronically and therefore does not contribute to the free shipping threshold.

Ordering

I have had an unexpected error when trying to complete my order, what should I do?

Oops! Sometimes things don't go to plan. If you experience a technical difficulty while trying to complete your order, try logging out of the website, then close and restart your internet browser.

How do I know if my order was completed successfully?

When you complete an order online, you will see a page showing your order confirmation. You will also receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.

If you placed the order through your The Body Shop account, you can track its status by accessing your profile at the top right-hand side of the website.

Can I check if a store has a product in stock?

Please call your local store to check product availability, our in-store team is always happy to help. Find your local store here.

Can I place an order without creating an account?

Yes - you can place an order as a guest without having to register an account. You can make this choice at checkout. We will still need to take a few details like your email and address so that we can process the order, but that's just so we know where to send your order!

Top tip: Creating an account has lots of benefits such as a place to view order history, saved payment details and saved wish lists!

How do I make changes to my order?

Whilst placing your order, you can edit and make changes to it at any point. Once you have confirmed your order and made payment, unfortunately no further changes can be made. If you have selected incorrect products or are no longer happy with the purchase you have made, please review our returns procedures.

Have I been charged for my order more than once?

If you have tried to place the same order more than once, you may have placed multiple orders. Please check whether you have received more than one order confirmation email (this may take up to 1 working day to arrive). Alternatively, if you have an account, you can check the status of your order(s) by visiting Latest Orders which you can find under My Account after you have logged in.

I am ordering an item as a gift, will it come in discreet packaging?

Yes! All of our orders are packaged in discreet plain brown packaging. You can shop our range of fantastic gifts here.

Pre-Orders

What is a Pre order?

Sometimes inventory is not physically available but we know we will be receiving it in the near future.  In these cases we allow customers to pre order the product.  The customer will be charged for it and be given a future delivery date.  The order is then fulfilled within that timeframe once the inventory arrives in Canada.

Can I cancel a Pre order before it arrives?

In order to cancel a pre order before it arrives you will have to reach out to our Customer Service team here.

If I have a mixture of preorder product and available to order product will I receive my available product order before the pre order?

Yes, we will fulfill all items in your cart that are not pre order in line with our normal shipping guidelines.  The Pre order portion of your order will follow afterwards in line with the pre order guidance.

Does a pre order contribute to threshold free shipping if the rest of my basket is below the threshold for free shipping?

Yes, your total purchase will contribute to your free shipping threshold regardless of whether it is pre order or regular order.

Promotion

Can I use two promotional codes together?

Unfortunately, you aren't able to use two promotional codes together. If you have more than one to choose from you will need to decide which code you prefer to use.

Why is my promotional code not working?

If you are having trouble with a promotional code, please check that you have qualified for the promotion you are trying to use. For example, if particular products are excluded from a promotion (which will be identified in the T&Cs) they would not be counted towards a required spend. e.g. spend $20 and receive a free gift.

Please double check that you have spent enough to quality for a discount. Note that shipping costs are not included in the spend requirement for any promotion.

What is a "Gift with Purchase"?

Sometimes we offer a promotion in the form of a free or a discounted item, conditional on the purchase of one or more other products. e.g. 3 for 2, Buy 2 get one half price or Free gift when you spend $XX.

If you are having trouble with a promotional code, please check that you have qualified for the promotion you are trying to use. For example, if particular products are excluded from a promotion (which will be identified in the T&Cs) they would not be counted towards a required spend. e.g. spend $40 and receive a free gift.

Please note that shipping costs are not included in the spend requirement for any promotions.

I forgot to add my promotional code, what can I do?

If you forgot to add a discount code to your order and it was eligible for discount, please contact us straight away. Our Customer Care team will look into cancelling the order so that you can place a new one and include the code.

Payment

My order was rejected but it looks like the money has still come out of my bank account?

Don't worry, this is normal. It can take up to 5 working days for the money to be back in your account.

Are my credit or debit card details saved?

If you have an account with us and have previously made a purchase online, you will have been given the option to save your payment details. If you select yes, your payment details (excluding the CCV number) will be saved and available for you during checkout the next time you place an order.

Should you wish to make any changes to the payment information you have stored, this can be done in the My Account area.

Can I change my payment details once my order has been submitted?

No, unfortunately you are not able to amend your payment details once your order has been submitted. If you need to cancel your order for any reason, please find more information in the ordering section of the FAQ or contact us.

You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time, there are two ways you can do this.

Either you can click on the unsubscribe button at the bottom of the latest email you received and this will be updated in our details. Or you can log into your account at any time through the website and amend your preferences and subscriptions.

If you're on mobile, head to your account by clicking on the menu icon on the top left hand corner of your screen. When the menu pops up, click on the My Account icon (a body outline).

On desktop? Click the My Account icon on the top right hand side of your screen. Once signed in, click on the My Account dropdown and navigate to preferences.

Is there a Body Shop Loyalty Programme?

At the time of writing there is no Loyalty programme available with The Body Shop Canada.  We are working hard to develop a loyalty programme.

Prior to 31st March 2024 there was a Loyalty programme called Love Your Body LYBC.  THIS IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT and subsequently any benefits associated with this programme and null and void.
